Douglas Wright

Dr. Douglas Elliott Wright was born in New Zealand where he has lived most of his life. He has also lived and worked in Canada, California and India. He became a scientist working on animal production and processing research. He had post doctoral fellowships at McGill University, Montreal, and at the University of California, Davis.

His professional qualifications include a Ph.D, a D.Sc, and he is an honorary Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Chemistry.

He was a member of a United Nations Development Programme on improving tropical animal production in Asia and in Africa. Since retirement, he has been involved in pest management research in New Zealand and in Australia.

Sport has been a major interest in his life. He has been a prominent sportsman winning provincial tennis titles and representing New Zealand in tennis; and winning many New Zealand University table tennis titles and being a provincial representative in table tennis.

His hobbies include painting portraits and landscapes, golf, and writing. His writing interests have been in short stories and in history articles. He lives with his wife, Sue, in Hamilton, New Zealand. A past President of the New Zealand Institute of Chemistry and of the Nutrition Society of New Zealand, he is a Justice of the Peace, a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit, and a Companion of the Royal Society of New Zealand.
