Thomas R. Harrison

Thomas R. Harrison was a native of Salt Lake City, Utah. He was educated in the public schools and attended the University of Utah until called into the United States Army in June 1941. He was assigned to duty in the Philippine Department shortly after, fought in the Battle of Bataan and spent three and a half years as a Japanese Prisoner of War. At war's end he returned to Salt Lake and was employed as a mine engineer in Park City, obtaining his Mining Engineering Degree from the University through study at night. He spent several years employed in supervisory positions at the mines and in oil field operations. He joined Hercules Incorporated (then Hercules Powder Company) in 1961, retiring after twenty-two years of service as Superintendent of Mechanical Design. Mr. Harrison was involved in public affairs for much of his career, and was Chairman of the Utah State Board of Pardons at the time of his retirement.

Tom passed away on August 12th, 2013 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He leaves behind his wife, the former Dorothy Wagstaff, and their three children, Jane F., Thomas F., and Paul H. Harrison, as well as five grandchildren. In addition to his writing, he was an avid golfer and fisherman. Tom was laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery on September 24th, 2014.
