Doris H. Dancy

Doris H. Dancy is an award-winning educator who has spent her life educating our youth in an appreciation of both the written and spoken word. Growing up in Raleigh, North Carolina with her parents, brother, and grandmother was a joy, and she spent time there writing poetry, plays for her church, and enjoying movies. She received her BA Degree in English and Spanish from North Carolina Central University in Durham, N.C. and began her teaching career in both English and Spanish. Later, she was graduated from Hampton University in Hampton, VA with a MA Degree in English Education. As an educator, she has served as Chairman of the English Department at Hampton High School in Hampton, VA, and later English Teacher Specialist and Supervisor of English K-12 for Hampton City Public Schools. One of her greatest accomplishments as Supervisor of English was to develop a successful step-by-step writing program which guaranteed student achievement. After her retirement, Mrs. Dancy started her own small business, Pen To Paper Writing Consulting, LLC where she edits for other writers, and presents staff development workshops for teachers, training them in the art of teaching writing. Throughout her career, Mrs. Dancy has obtained many favorable outcomes in a variety of endeavors. Three that she is most proud of include witnessing the tremendous success of so many of her students, receiving the award for The Virginia Outstanding Teacher of English, as well as The National Award for Building Successful Readers. Now, she has written her debut novel, Jagged Edges. She believes that her portrayal of the life of her protagonist, Derek Chase Wellington, III, is intriguing from beginning to end. Presently, she lives in Yorktown, Virginia with her husband, Willie, who is her very best friend. They have two outstanding daughters, Monica and Tara, an impressive son-in-law, Christopher, and three fantastic granddaughters, Cadence, Tali, and Zoey.
