Loui Lord Nelson

Loui Lord Nelson, a former special education teacher, is a full believer and implementer of Universal Design for Learning. She is the UDL Specialist for the School Wide Integrated Framework for Transformation (SWIFT) project through the University of Kansas and also works as an international consultant focused on Universal Design for Learning. Loui provides guidance to schools and districts interested in implementing UDL as a guiding framework and works directly with teachers on designing flexible environments. In addition, she is working with a colleague to identify overarching characteristics of teachers, administrators, and state level leaders that lead to the successful implementation of UDL. She completed a Fellowship through CAST and Boston College in 2013. During that time, she wrote the book Design and Deliver: Planning and Teaching Using Universal Design for Learning which was based on her work as the UDL Coordinator for Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation in Columbus, Indiana from 2007 – 2012. She received her Pd.D. from the Beach Center on Families at the University of Kansas.
