Susan Hubert

Hello, and welcome to my author page. Whether you've read my books before, are thinking of trying one, or just landed here by chance, it's great to have you here.

I have lived in Zimbabwe all my life, and the country’s vibrant landscapes and complex history inspire my writing.

I studied English and Psychology, with Mathematics as a minor, at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa. After university, I returned to Bulawayo and spent sixteen years teaching Mathematics in local high schools.

Later, I spent time in the United States, where I supported my husband during his time as a professor of Equine Surgery, and it was there that I began to focus more seriously on writing. When we returned home to Zimbabwe, I balanced tutoring Mathematics with managing our cattle herd, before eventually settling full-time on a farm we lease near Bulawayo. These days, alongside my writing, I help with renovations on the farm, while my husband establishes a huge pecan plantation.

We still do a great deal of travelling, mainly around southern Africa, but I also travel to the United Kingdom often to visit my parents who moved there in the 1980s, and to various other countries in the world where other members of our family have emigrated.

My novels are inspired by themes of resilience, family, and belonging, set against the shifting social and political backdrop of Zimbabwe.
