G.S. Hellberg was born in Portland, Oregon but spent most of his life in Modesto, California. While working in the sheet metal industry to support his wife and growing family, he attended night classes, finally earning a B.A. degree from California State University, Stanislaus. His wife, Kathleen, became ill and passed away at a young age, leaving him alone to care for his 5 children. A few years later, he met and married his current wife, Rena, and relocated to Sacramento, California, where he currently works in special education. In his spare time, he writes poetry and is also working on a number of other book projects. He also enjoys nature, movies, and going for long walks. He credits friends and family with inspiring him to finish his first book, "Liberty's Shadow".
