After my Sophomore year at Lake Highlands in Dallas, our family moved to Joplin, Missouri. In 1973 Susan Ellis and I were married in May of our senior year in high school. We just celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary and we've been blessed with five children. Our youngest, Colson, was killed in a tornado in 2006 at the age of fourteen. Much of the impetus for this book is the result of what God brought me through after his death.

We have lived in the Dallas, McKinney and Van Alstyne areas all of our married life. I've been in the Deck and Patio Cover business and founded Professional Deck Builder Magazine. Susan and I have attended several Bible churches since the early days of our marriage.

My favorite hobbies have been boating, fishing and I'm a licensed seaplane pilot hoping to fly the Florida Keys and the Bahamas soon. However, spending time with our grandkids and taking them on long summer road trips to explore the back roads of North America has been our favorite activity.
