Michael Vaughan

Nearly twenty years ago, Mike Vaughan set out to teach computers to think, a field called artificial intelligence (AI). Equipped with newly minted degrees in computer science and psychology, he became a rising star in artificial neural networks, where computers model how our brains work. He applied his knowledge on a team that developed the first computer simulation portal and one of the training industry’s first learning and content management systems.

Mike realized that adept computer design was only a tool in elevating the thought processes of people. Diving into research encompassing neuroscience, learning and technology, he sought new ways to help people generate insights from within, a departure from traditional training and learning methodology.

His search led him deeper into neuroscience, behavioral science, computer science, educational science and the emerging realm of neuroplasticity. His studies took him to India, where he spent considerable time with Jesuits who developed techniques for exposing and rewriting our limiting beliefs.

Driven by a relentless desire to change the way people learn and think, Mike held leadership positions within national training companies before co-founding a startup focused on delivering custom business simulations to Fortune 1000 companies. Today, Mike is president of The Regis Company, one of the world’s top custom simulation firms, specializing in transforming leadership among Fortune 500 companies and government agencies.

Considered a leading authority on training technology, gaming and transformative organizational change, Mike often acts as a confidant and advisor to CEOs and is a frequent speaker at learning technology events and conferences. He is a recognized expert in the areas of computer-aided business simulations, new media-leveraged training design, and rapid prototyping of creative learning solutions.

In order to spearhead new ways of thinking and learning, Mike authored The Thinking Effect: Rethinking Thinking to Create Great Leaders and the New Value Worker, which charts new territory in increasing our ability to learn and to generate enduring value. His first book, The End of Training: How Simulations are Reshaping Business, explores the applicability of computer-aided simulation technologies to training and workforce development within organizations.

Mike is an avid cyclist and outdoor adventurer. He lives with his family near Denver, Colorado, at the foot of the Rocky Mountains.
