Lars Tønder is an assistant professor in political theory at Northwestern University. His research interests include early modern political thought, political theology, phenomenology, and new theories of democracy. At Northwestern, Professor Tønder is affiliated with the Rhetoric and Public Culture program as well as the Critical Theory program. He is the recipient of the 2004 Johns Hopkins University Alumni Association Excellence in Teaching Award and the 2007 American Political Science Association Leo Strauss Award for best dissertation in political philosophy. He was a 2009-2010 Fellow at the Alice Kaplan Institute for the Humanities, Northwestern University. More recently, Professor Tønder has been a Visiting Fellow at the University of Copenhagen as well as at Centre d'Études en Rhétorique, Philosophie et Histoire des Idées, École Normale Supérieure Lettres et Sciences Humaines, Lyon.
