Elmo Gonzaga is Associate Professor and Director of the MA in Intercultural Studies Programme at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). CUHK is #47 in the latest QS World University Rankings. Born, raised, and educated in Manila, he is a former Permanent Resident of Singapore, where lived and worked for 7 years. He obtained his PhD from the Rhetoric Department at the University of California, Berkeley.
His research focuses on transnational film and media, postcolonial cities, historical memory, global theory, and Southeast Asian culture. His work has been published in leading journals in Film & Media Studies, Cultural Studies, and Asian Studies such as the 'Journal of Cinema and Media Studies' ('Cinema Journal'), 'Cultural Studies', 'South East Asia Research,' and the 'Journal of Asian Studies'. He was the keynote speaker for two inaugural conferences on Critical Island Studies in Manila and Comparative Literature in Southeast Asian in Hanoi. He is a Member of the Advisory Board of 'Verge: Studies in Global Asias.'
