Rodney Benson is professor of media studies and sociology at New York University. He is the lead author of How Media Ownership Matters (Oxford, 2025; with Mattias Hessérus, Timothy Neff, and Julie Sedel). He is also the author of Shaping Immigration News: A French-American Comparison (Cambridge, 2014), winner of the 2020 Doris Graber best book of the decade award from the American Political Science Association (APSA), and the co-editor (with Erik Neveu) of Bourdieu and the Journalistic Field (Polity, 2005). His writing and research on news media ownership, funding, and audiences have appeared in The Atlantic, Axios, NiemanLab, Columbia Journalism Review, Poynter, Le Monde Diplomatique, The Conversation, and elsewhere.
