J. J. Carney

J.J. (Jay) Carney is the Amelia B. and Emil G. Graff Chair in Catholic Theological Studies at Creighton University, Omaha, Nebraska, USA. His scholarship lies at the intersection of history and theology with a particular focus on Catholicism in eastern and central Africa. He also engages questions of modern church history, political theology, the theology of reconciliation, public religious leadership, church and state, and sport and theology. He is the author, co-author, or editor of five books including Rwanda Before the Genocide, awarded the Bethwell Ogot prize from the African Studies Association. In addition to his work at Creighton, Prof. Carney has served as a U.S. Fulbright Scholar in Uganda, a visiting professor at Uganda Martyrs University (Nkozi, Uganda), and a visiting research scholar at Hekima University College (Nairobi, Kenya). He holds a Masters of Divinity from Duke University and a PhD in Church History from The Catholic University of America (Washington, DC).
