Will Kynes

Will Kynes is Associate Professor of Biblical Studies at Samford University. Before coming to Samford in 2019, he spent six years at Whitworth University and another six in the UK, where he completed an M.Litt. in theological interpretation of Scripture at the University of St. Andrews, a Ph.D. in Hebrew Bible/Old Testament at the University of Cambridge, and then taught at the University of Oxford. His research focuses on the interconnections between two large themes, wisdom and suffering, and two literary features, intertextuality and genre. His first book, My Psalm Has Turned into Weeping: Job’s Dialogue with the Psalms (de Gruyter, 2012), was awarded the Manfred Lautenschläger Award for Theological Promise in 2015. His second monograph, An Obituary for “Wisdom Literature": The Birth, Death, and Intertextual Reintegration of a Biblical Corpus (OUP, 2019) seeks to contribute to a paradigm shift in the study of biblical wisdom. He also co-hosts The Two Testaments podcast.
