Annabel Soutar

Annabel Soutar is the artistic director of Porte Parole, a Montreal theatre company dedicated to creating and producing original documentary plays about contemporary social and political issues. Her first play, Novembre, debuted in 2000. Since then she has written 2000 Questions (2002) and contributed to Sante! (2003), a seven-part documentary series about Quebec’s health care system. Her more recent docudrama, Sexy béton (Sexy Concrete) (2009/2010), was named a finalist for the prestigious French playwriting award Le Prix Michel-Tremblay in 2011.

In 2012 Seeds was published in both English (Talonbooks) and French (Les Editions ecosociété) and presented across Canada. Also in 2012, Annabel was commissioned with Chris Abraham of Crow’s Theatre to write a new documentary play about fresh water for the 2015 Toronto Pan American/Para Pan American Games cultural program, PANAMANIA. That play, The Watershed, premiered to great acclaim at the Berkeley Street Theatre (Canadian Stage) in Toronto during the games from July 12 to 19, 2015.
