Garrett Socol

Garrett Socol's quirky novel TOOTH DECAY is a story of obsession, attraction, and proper flossing.

If there's one complaint this author has about contemporary fiction, it's that it's so darn serious. He believes humor can be found in almost any situation, and while TOOTH DECAY explores some serious terrain (infidelity, jealousy, revenge), you'll find laugh-out-loud humor throughout its pages.

In Solon Springs, Wisconsin, a very popular, very married dentist falls passionately in love with his bewitching new hygienist. Once she flosses his teeth, there's no turning back. A steamy affair begins, bringing scandal, mayhem, and murder to this ordinarily peaceful little town.

For 15 years, Garrett Socol was a successful producer in cable television. Among other shows, he created and produced "Talk Soup" for the E! network when the E! network had never heard of the Kardashians.

As a playwright, his work has been produced at the Berkshire Theatre Festival and the Pasadena Playhouse.

His collection of short stories, GATHERED HERE TOGETHER, was published by Ampersand Books. In a review for the literary journal PANK, one critic wrote: "Truman Capote wishes he could have written with such wit." Truman Capote!

Another review: "Brilliantly created characters and masterful prose. There's no fluff here, just finely crafted fiction that brings in the reader and doesn't let go until well after the last story is told."

A review for Garrett Socol's novella FAME AND MADNESS IN AMERICA contained the following:

"The reader (this one in particular) enjoys some fabulous tears-streaming-down-face-in-public laughter. Shoulders shaking, gasping for breath, concerned onlookers discreetly gauging the situation on my side of the doctor’s waiting room where I was trying to read quietly. Any writing that triggers fits of uncontrollable idiotic laughter like that gets my thumbs up.”
