Beverly G. McCarter

Beverly Gay McCarter is an award winning certified architect/designer of 3D Immersive Virtual Spaces. Her work focuses on the psychology of the avatar and virtual worlds, "wicked problems", the complexity of immersive learning spaces, as well as the impact of the aesthetics of 3D immersive environments on complex human systems. Experience includes US Army Simulation and Training Technology Center, the National Defense University, the Smithsonian Institute, and Innovative Decisions, Inc.

With an M.S. degree in Counseling Psychology and Human Systems, an M.F.A. in Painting, publications in the fields of Complexity and Leadership, as well as technical articles and presentations on virtual environments and complex systems, Ms. McCarter has a deep understanding of the inherent dynamics of virtual environments that allow the Wicked Problems or complex human dynamics of our physical world to be mirrored in these virtual environments and how these environments can be used to meet the unique challenges of the 21st century teaching creativity, critical thinking, problem solving, and leadership.

Ms. McCarter has been a Solution Provider for Linden Labs' Second Life virtual world and is familiar with other virtual worlds such as Unity 3D, OpenSim, MOSES, UDK, World of Warcraft, Teleplace, VastPark, 3Dxplorer, ActiveWorlds, to name a few. While working at the National Defense University in Washington, DC, she helped coordinate and execute the efforts of the Federal Consortium for Virtual Worlds to bring the Federal Government into virtual worlds, as well as instructing faculty and Pentagon leadership in the navigation and use of virtual worlds.

Her award winning work includes the US Army's 2012 Federal Virtual Worlds Challenge: Engaging Learning (3rd Place) for her Maya Astronomy Center, Phases 1 & 2; and the 2012 Virtual Worlds Best Practices in Education conference - "Best Example of Educational Practices in a Virtual World" for Maya Island.

Also, Ms. McCarter is an award winning artist focusing on human dynamics and the inherent effects of complexity and the edge of chaos on human consciousness. Her work emphasizes the ability to "see" multiple perspectives and complexity of who we are and our relationships with others.
