Marlene G. Fine

Marlene G. Fine, Ph.D. is Professor Emerita at Simmons University, Boston, MA. Professor Fine specializes in issues of gender, race, and culture. Her most recent book (co-authored with Fern L. Johnson) is Let's Talk Race: A Guide for White People (New Society Publishers, 2021). Professors Fine and Johnson also co-authored The Interracial Adoption Option: Creating a Family Across Race (JKP, 2013), which is based on their experiences as the adoptive mothers of two African American sons. Fine also wrote Building Successful Multicultural Organizations: Challenges and Opportunities (Quorum Books, 1995). Her early research focused on the representation of African Americans in network television; more recent work focuses on cultural diversity in the workplace, women and leadership, and parenting across race and gender differences. Her articles have appeared in numerous journals and edited books. Fine volunteered for many years as a facilitator for the YW Boston Dialogues on Race and Ethnicity and often speaks (with Fern L. Johnson) on issues related to how white people can talk about race, parenting children of color, and adoption. She lives outside of Boston.
