Borwin Bandelow

Borwin Bandelow is Professor and Deputy Director at the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at the University of Göttingen, Germany. As a specialist for psychiatry and neurology, a psychologist, and a psychotherapist, Dr. Bandelow specializes mainly in anxiety disorders. Other research topics include studies on assessment, neurobiology, and treatment of anxiety disorders, efficacy of psychotherapy, psychopharmacology, and the neurobiology of borderline and antisocial personality disorder.

He is the Managing Director of the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy. He daily routine includes clinical work with patients, teaching for medical students, research and administrative functions.

He authored or coauthored over 300 publications internationally in books and journals and is a frequent international speaker.

He has written a number of scientific books in English, including "Social Anxiety Disorder" (2004) and "Panic disorder and Agoraphobia" (2013)

He has also written a number of books on psychiatric topics for the general public, including “The Anxiety Book”, “Celebrities”, “The Shyness Book”, “When The Mind Suffers”, “Who Is Afraid Of The Bad Man?”, some of which became bestsellers and were translated into several languages.

He is President of the German Society for Anxiety Research.

He is Editor-in-Chief of the German Journal of Psychiatry, one of the first psychiatric on-line journals.
