David Mackintosh

David Mackintosh is a graphic designer and illustrator. He was commissioned to illustrate his first book (a version of HC Andersen's The Emperor's New Clothes) in his final year of university. He has worked as a designer and art director in publishing, advertising and TV production, and with some of the most celebrated names in children's publishing.

Marshall Armstrong is New to Our School (shortlisted for the Roald Dahl Funny Prize 2011) and The Frank Show (USBBY Outstanding International Book 2013 and Longlisted for Kate Greenaway Prize) were the first of six picture books written and illustrated for HarperCollins UK. Standing In for Lincoln Green (shortlisted for The Western Writers of America Spur Award), LUCKY (Shortlisted for a Queensland Literary Award, 2015), What's Up MuMu? and There's a Bug On My Arm That Won't Let Go are all available in hardback. In the US, David's books are published by Abrams Books and Candlewick Press. His picture book Waiting for Chicken Smith looks at memory, tradition and change and was shortlisted for the Prime Minister's Literary Award. My Dog, Hen (Prestel, Munich) has a sustainability theme and explores the responsibility of caring for a secondhand pet.

David has written and illustrated three picture books for the Natural History Museum, London, to coincide with major exhibitions at the Museum: Dippy, Titanosaurus and Hello Space. The books are seen through the eyes of Waterhouse, a mouse residing in the Museum building, and tackle big scientific subjects in a busy and humorous way.

He continues to design books for illustrators including Lauren Child, whom he has collaborated with for many years on her picture books and novels including Charlie and Lola, Clarice Bean and The Ruby Redfort Series.

David lives in London, UK, and likes to visit cities, the beach and being read to.
