Mike recently completed co-directing and co-producing the acclaimed documentary film, The Big Shootout: The Life and Times of 1969. The Big Shoot Out’s highly anticipated world debut came on April 13, 2013 to a sold-out house at the historic Texas Theatre in Dallas as part of the Dallas International Film Festival. Mike’s non-fiction book, The Battle of the Bulge: The Untold Story of Hofen centers around a false report filed during the Battle of the Bulge. “Hofen” received critical praise from the media, political dignitaries, and even Hollywood. Follow Mike’s journey as he discovers long buried secrets from World War II, revealed not only by his father’s private notes after his passing—but also from Mike’s interviews with his father’s fellow soldiers. The Untold Story of Hofen reminds us that history often rewrites itself until we find the truth.

Mike Looney’s first novel, Heroes Are Hard to Find was also widely acclaimed by the media and public alike. Heroes delves into the theme of good over evil and exploits the pitfalls of taking the short cut in life and sports. In conjuncture with Heroes, Mike appeared on over 70 radio stations nationwide discussing the impact on society of cheating in sports and vice versa.

True to his roots, much of Heroes Are Hard to Find takes place in East Dallas and at Woodrow Wilson High School. Blake Miles, Mike’s long time buddy, contributed original drawings of Woodrow Wilson and Harrell’s Drug Store for the book. Charlie Waters, former All-Pro with the Dallas Cowboys, drew the cover.

Mike was born in Monticello, Arkansas but his parents relocated to Dallas in 1963 and he graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1967. Mike graduated from Texas Tech in 1971 where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and earned a degree in marketing.

Mike has enjoyed a successful business career as an insurance broker for over 40 years, specializing in employee benefit plans and executive compensation. He still lives in East Dallas with his wife, Sandra, a former model and current local actress. The Looney’s have three daughters, Sloan, Kate and CeCe who all graduated from Woodrow Wilson in 2001, 2003 and 2007 respectively. Sloan graduated Magna Cum Laude from Vanderbilt the spring of 2005, while Kate graduated with honors from the University of Texas at Austin in the spring of 2007. CeCe recently graduated with a theater degree from Kansas University in Lawrence. The Looneys welcomed their first grandchild, Georgie Maverick Dix on 11/11/11.
