Martha Greenwald

Martha Greenwald is the founding director and curator of The WhoWeLost Project (https://whowelost.org). After three years of being a safe place for remembrances online, the project is now also an anthology, featuring 41 writers from across the U.S. Who We Lost: A Portable COVID Memorial from Belt Publishing is the first book that acknowledges the free-floating grief of the COVID-bereaved, affirms that it must be addressed, and offers specific writing prompts to help those who wish to write their own remembrances.

A poet, and former English professor, Greenwald is the winner of the 2020 Yeats Prize for Poetry. Her first collection of poetry, Other Prohibited Items, was the winner of the Mississippi Review Poetry Series. Her work has appeared in such journals as New World Writing, The Threepenny Review, Slate, Poetry, The Sewanee Review and Best New Poets. She has held a Wallace Stegner Fellowship at Stanford and been awarded fellowships from the North Carolina and Kentucky Arts Councils, among other honors.
