Art Cockerill was born in England, educated at the Duke of York's Royal Military School and commissioned in the British Army. Trained as a power engineer, he was a consultant to the Canadian nuclear industry and a member of the National Technical Committee on Nuclear QA. His technical books include A handbook of Technical Writing (for engineers and scientists), Hydrogen Purification, Commercial Kitchen Ventilation Systems, Airport Baggage Handling Systems, an Operating Manual for a Nuclear Generating Station. Art also did the donkey's share of the work in revising the national accreditation standards for the CCHA (Canadian Council on Hospital Accreditation). In 1958, he wrote lyrics and music for 'That's the Style' (staged in Montreal with music arr. by Alan McIver of the CBC, Montreal Orchestra) followed by the book, music and lyrics for the 1959 production of his musical 'The Yukon Trail'. He edited and published the national quarterly 'Silent Sentinel' on airport security for four years. Working and travelling internationally, Art has been a newspaper columnist, journalist, biographer, novelist, playwright, children's author, publisher, musician and composer. He is a man of many parts with fascinating ventures ripe for the telling.
