David Malet is an Associate Professor in the School of Public Affairs at American University, Washington DC. His research examines militant groups and identity, and he has consulted for governments and law enforcement in several countries on foreign fighter issues. He also researches biosecurity and bioterrorism since working in an office targeted in the 2001 anthrax attacks. He has served as a defense and foreign policy aide to US Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle, Director of the Security Policy Studies Program of the Elliott School at George Washington University, Director of the Center for the Study of Homeland Security at Colorado State University, and Associate Director of the School of Government at the University of Melbourne, Australia.
