Joseph Gutiz

Jose Gutierrez Gonzalez—also known by the professional pseudonym Joseph Gutiz—is an internationally award-winning author, fine art photographer, speaker, and PR and media professional. He is the founder and President of New Trends Press, an independent publishing and media company dedicated to culturally significant storytelling, visual arts, and creative nonfiction.

With over 25 years of experience in education and a master’s degree in educational leadership, Jose has spent his career shaping minds while honing a voice rooted in history, heritage, and lived experience. His literary work has earned international recognition, including three awards from the International Latino Book Awards in 2014, honoring his contributions to culturally resonant literature.

Jose’s writing is deeply personal and intergenerational. He completed and brought to publication a two-book historical memoir series originally authored by his father, Liborio Gutierrez Martin del Campo, preserving and expanding a powerful narrative centered on La Capilla de Guadalupe in Los Altos de Jalisco, Mexico. Through this work, Jose bridges family legacy with historical documentation, ensuring these stories reach new generations and audiences.

Raised in the Pico-Union area of Los Angeles during the 1970s and 1980s, Jose’s work reflects the vibrant multicultural realities of his upbringing, blended with the historical depth of his ancestral homeland. This dual perspective informs both his written and visual storytelling.

In addition to his literary career, Jose is an accomplished fine art photographer, with work exhibited in gallery settings and featured in editorial and media projects.
