David H. Walker

David Walker is a specialist on the literature and culture of France. He has published numerous critical works, including "Outrage and Insight", on modern French writers who have taken inspiration from sensational news stories, and "Consumer Chronicles", a study on literary depictions of the consumer society. He is also the author of four novels : "Migrating Voids", "An Uncertain Shore", "Storms in the Midi", and "Unspoken". Emeritus Professor of the University of Sheffield, he writes both in English and in French, and is well known in France and beyond as a leading expert on the writings of Albert Camus and André Gide (he has contributed to the standard French editions of both authors). He is active in the world of theatre, as director and actor, and has published translations of French plays including "The Scavengers" ("Les Corbeaux") by Henry Becque (broadcast on BBC Radio, and staged by Alan Ayckbourn as "Wolf at the Door") and "Liberty Equality Paternity" from "Le Fils de Giboyer" of Émile Augier.
