Martin Fernandez is a cyclist, author, trail builder, and longtime advocate for cycling in the Mid-Atlantic region. He has been riding, exploring, and promoting trails throughout the region for more than three decades.
His love of cycling began in 1990 when a crashed car forced him onto a mountain bike for his daily commute in Baltimore, Maryland. What started as a practical solution quickly became a lifelong passion that led him from the trails of Loch Raven Reservoir to years of riding, trail advocacy, and community involvement with the Mid-Atlantic Off-Road Enthusiasts (MORE).
Martin is the author of four regional cycling guides that highlight some of the best riding destinations in the Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia region. Through his writing, he has helped thousands of cyclists discover new routes, trails, and adventures.
After more than twenty years living with ulcerative colitis, Martin underwent life-changing surgery and began documenting his recovery journey. His latest book, *My Journey With Ulcerative Colitis: Getting Back on the Bike*, chronicles the realities of chronic illness, major surgery, recovery, and finding a new normal through cycling. By sharing his story, he hopes to encourage others facing similar challenges and remind them that they are not alone.
When he's not writing, you'll usually find him riding singletrack, exploring gravel roads, building trails, or planning the next adventure with friends.
