James Baxter

Jim Baxter was born and raised in Montreal. He earned a PhD in chemistry from McGill University but realized he would never earn a Nobel Prize so he moved to the west coast and taught high school. Along with the usual life-style changes associated with male mid-life crisis, Jim also became involved in the Anglican Church. Something about the liturgy, the prayers, the rituals really grabbed Jim. It was the teaching of the church, the child-like dogma and so-called beliefs put forth as truth that started his 25 years of questioning, probing, arguing and reading.

“I do not like having to leave my brain at the door when entering church. I have no difficulty with the mystery of God, I experience God in church and in everyday life. But I do not have to believe anything. I do not believe in God, I know God. It is in the same way I don’t believe, rather, I know the love between my wife and I.”

The marriage of the ancient wisdom in the Book of Deuteronomy with an emerging new Christianity is the result of Jim’s spiritual journey.

“This is the book for those who don’t believe in God but sense there is more to life than Walmart.”
