Faye Bradley
Faye Bradley was born in Wilmington, Delaware to John Simpson and Lovina Elizabeth Bradley, after the Great Depression and before World War II. Eleanor Maye, Jacqueline Kaye, Nancy Raye, her three older sisters lead to Sandra “Faye Bradley”, thus she uses this name proudly in her first attempt in writing this book.
Faye attended Goldey Beacom School of Business (now Goldey Beacom College) in Delaware. The mother of four Eagle Scout sons, she was very active with the Boy Scouts of America, where she received the distinguished Silver Beaver Award in 1978, along with her husband, Dr. Richard D. Pruett. Through the years with the duPont Company, the family transferred from their home in Chadds Ford, PA; to Clinton, Iowa; to Richmond, VA; to Topeka, Kansas, and finally to Florence, South Carolina in 1975. This year marks her 50th year as a resident of South Carolina!
Growing up in the Religious Society of Friends (known as the “Quakers”), Faye’s faith in the ‘Silent Meeting’ gave her the foundation that she tries to live by today. Her ‘church family’ is now First Methodist, downtown Myrtle Beach, where she is involved in their many programs and outreach endeavors in local, state, and national charities.
With over twenty-five years of volunteer service to the American Red Cross, she found her calling with each move as she taught swimming, and adaptive swimming, life saving, first aid, served on disaster teams, and on a number of their Board of Directors, attended seven ARC National Annual Meetings, and served as a voting delegate to most.
Since high school on a debate team, Faye has been very interested and involved in local and national politics on both sides of the aisle! She helped get Congressman John L. Napier elected, and helped run his Congressional Office in Conway, South Carolina.
Faye is working on the sequel to this book, enjoys crafting, and spending time with her amalgamation of family and friends as well as her constant companions – two sweet toy poodles, Dora and Bucky.
From the screenplay her son, John Pruett wrote, they created this novel, based upon a real-life story of one of Faye’s mother’s best friends, Jane and Frank Braun. It allows the fictional elements to hold it together in a way that lets the reader live, laugh and love as they enjoy stepping back in time. The story captures the exciting era of the birth of Big Bands and Swing Dancing – right after the Stock Market Crash and repeal of Prohibition and reads like a fun history lesson and you will find yourself in the shoes of Frank, Gene, Jane and Lovina as they live life in 1930’s New York City and on the barrier island off the coast of Georgia – Jekyll Island.
