Bryan Smith is not only a full-time chief pilot of a law enforcement air support unit, he is also the Airborne Public Safety Association’s Safety Program Manager and instructor. A pilot since 1991, Bryan has spent his career developing and implementing safety solutions. His passion for aviation safety and training has given him the opportunity to meet and instruct safety classes to hundreds of airborne law enforcement aviators in the United States, Canada, Europe, Africa, U.A.E. and Brazil. In 2017, Bryan earned the Helicopter Association International’s prestigious Safety Award for his efforts.
Bryan’s family has supported his long hours spent working, teaching and training in pursuit of aviation safety and outreach. His two children, police officer’s kids, also endure the late nights their dad is laboring over the computer or traveling for yet another seminar. If it were not for my wife, Bryan says, I would not be a pilot, let alone an author or safety program manager. She has not only supported my decisions but also pushed me towards my goals when I needed it. I love my family more than anything…even flying.
