Ramon Mesa Ledesma's parents, Juan and Rosa immigrated from Mexico to the United States in the 1920's. As they raised a family they worked the migrant circuit. Ramon was born in Toppenish, Washington into a family of sixteen brothers and sisters. He spent his formative years in migrant labor camps throughout the Pacific Northwest. He attended Mount Vernon and Glenwood High Schools, graduating from Glenwood High School in Glenwood, Washington. After graduation he joined the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Fairchild A.F.B. outside of Spokane, Washington. He was an aircraft crew chief and flew on a KC-135A tanker. During the Vietnam War he flew refueling missions out of bases in Thailand, Okinawa and Guam. After Vietnam he attended Spokane Falls Community College and then Eastern Washington State College, now Eastern Washington University, earning a BA and M.Ed. As an undergraduate his majors were history and sociology with a minor in anthropology. His graduate studies were in counseling.
Ramon lives with his wife, Kendra, a high school mathematics teacher, three dogs, a cat and an assortment of bear, coyotes, rabbits, and deer on ten acres in rural Sedro Woolley, Washington. He is retired from his private counseling career and now spends his time writing children's books, poetry and short stories. He has published a children's book, Tomas And The Magic Race Cars, Migrant Sun, a book of prose and poetry and Migrant Earth, a sequel to Migrant Sun.
