Ian Duncan MacDonald

Ian's first job after graduating from McMaster University was as a commercial credit reporter with Dun & Bradstreet. They employed 8,000 people in offices around the world. Each day he was sent out to investigate eleven businesses. His reports were requested by banks, insurance companies, manufacturers, and wholesalers. They could enquire on the smallest to the largest of businesses.

Being naturally curious, Ian loved the job. At twenty-three years of age, he could walk into any business and ask their chief executive how they operated and made money. Ian quickly acquired a wealth of business knowledge.

He progressed very rapidly through the company as a reporting manager, sales representative. General Manager of the new Marketing Services Division and General Sales Manager of all division with a staff of 100 sales representatives.

With no further promotions available at Dun & Bradstreet, he left to join a larger international conglomerate to run three small subsidiaries. Not liking that company, he left to join Creditel, a company in directed competition with Dun & Bradstreet. He rose to become the Senior Vice President responsible for most of the revenue and profits of the company. Within a few years he had taken away half of Dun & Bradstreet's Canadian customers, by building a data gathering system that did not require reporters and using computers to risk score businesses and write better businesses reports.

Creditel was acquired by Equifax, the world's largest international consumer risk reporting service. They wanted to expand into commercial reporting. Ian stayed with them as a Vice President for nine years. Prior to retiring, he had incorporated Informus Inc to manage his art and the books that he intended to write.

Within four years of retiring, a financial advisor lost 300,000 dollars of Ian's life savings. This motivated Ian to build a stock scoring system and to become a very successful self-directed investor. Since then, he has written six investment books to help those who seek financial independence and a safe retirement.
