Jan Camp

Jan Camp is a graphic designer in Portland, Oregon with a background in fine art and writing. With over twenty-five years working in traditional and digital publishing, she created Arc Light Books as a publishing imprint to help others with book design, editing, and managing the self-publishing process. www.arclightbooks.com

"After completing the first draft of my yet unpublished novel, I discovered hoopdance and went on to write its history as a self-published title. The new online technology was confusing and difficult to navigate. Several new clients came to me for help with their own titles when they heard I was learning it.

"From 2007 to 2016, I exhibited in and curated shows at Oakopolis Gallery in Oakland, CA. In Chicago in 1994, I completed a series of silver print photographs, still life with figure, that are represented by the AfterImage Gallery in Dallas, TX. This work lead to my first residency at the MacDowell artist colony. My 1997 series "Night Garden" broke creative ground in the early use of the desktop scanner as a camera. It was represented by the Sherry Frumkin Gallery in Los Angeles, with a review in the LA Times, and the Solomon Dubnick Gallery in Sacramento CA.

"I have an active hoopdance practice. I contributed to Cay Lang's "Taking the Leap" (Chronicle Books). And I studied art and writing at the College of Santa Fe, San Francisco State University, and the University of Chicago."
