Since 1984, Dr. Jones has spent his career in school improvement in the roles of teacher, administrator and now professor and consultant. While at The University of Texas at Tyler, he cofounded The Principal and Superintendent Institute which worked with hundreds of school leaders in school improvement initiatives by partnering with Geoffrey Caine of The Caine Learning Center. His inspiration for the Institute grew from the School-Within-A School he began at Thomas J. Rusk Middle School in the Nacogdoches Independent School District. The program, The Silver Team, utilized brain compatible learning that concentrated on individualized and self-paced instruction for middle-school students across the curriculum. The program was the focus of one installment of Promising Practices in Texas Education produced by KLRN, the PBS station in San Antonio.

In order to return to his first love-teaching, Dr. Jones left his administrative practice in 1998 to begin his professoriate career. Since that time, he has authored more than 80 publications and made over 135 presentations, keynotes and in-services. His first book, Education for the Human Brain: A Road Map to Natural Learning in Schools produced record sales. His second book, Harnessing the Dynamics of Public Education: Preparing for a Return to Greatness, takes on the war on education and a thoughtful yet detailed discussion on how this great institution can return to greatness and be the "best choice" for parents.

He is a Past-President of both the Texas Council of Professors of Educational Administration (TCPEA) and the SFASU Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa. He is currently the Editor of the highly regarded School Leadership Review. The Texas Congress of Parents and Teachers bestowed an Honorary Life Membership upon him in 1990 and the Texas House of Representatives flew a Texas flag over the Capital for him "In Recognition of His Dedication and Impact to the Education Community of Texas" on May 29, 2009. "Researcher of the Year" was awarded to him in 2013 by the Texas Council of Professors of Educational Administration. Timothy makes his home in Dallas Texas.
