Rachel Adelson M.A.

Rachel Adelson, M.A., is an award-winning science writer specializing in health and aging who turned a precocious interest in grab bars and friction tape into her first book.

She has covered everything from brain health and neurological disorders to behavioral economics and human-computer interaction. Her curiosity has led her to projects as diverse as writing a column on computer confidence, researching how people communicate about Alzheimer’s disease, and certifying to teach fitness to older adults—a task that put both her knees and her knowledge to the test.

After a successful career as an editor and speechwriter with IBM, Rachel founded Live Wire Communications to help clients in the health, science and technology sectors. Notable clients have included IBM, AT&T, the American Psychological Association, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Discovery Communications, and the Baycrest Centre for Geriatric Care, as well as elder-care programs in Ontario. Her writing earned two National Health Information Awards and a Clarion Award from Women in Communications.

Rachel has a master’s degree in journalism, a bachelor’s degree in psychology and graduate certificates in aging and public health. At 53, she got tired of sitting around and got certified to teach fitness to older adults (which is why that anti-aging wonder drug plays a key role in her book). A native of New York City, Rachel has also called Maryland and North Carolina home. She lives with her family outside Toronto, keeps hand weights in the living room and puts friction tape on the stairs.
