Velva Boles was born in the Piedmont area of North Carolina to Black American hard-working parents, grew up within a culture enriched by Afro-centric, Mvskogee and Cherokee traditions enjoying the attentions of extended family and grandparents; taught secondary school chemistry in Liberia, West Africa immediately after undergraduate graduation from N.C.S.U (B.S. Biology/ Chemistry). Returning to America, she worked in industry (Westinghouse and Gulf Oil), obtained a master's degree in Chemistry (Duquesne University) before completing medical school (University of PGH) and graduate study in classical pathology and molecular biology and health sciences Colorado State Univ and Concordia University (PhD)). She relocated to New Orleans for post-graduate medical training at Tulane Medical Center in 1994 (internal medicine and pediatrics). Hurricane Katrina of 2005 has had "life-changing" effects on her. Dr. Boles' first publications were whitepapers: Healthcare Disparity For Black Senior Citizens; Securing Potable Water Following a Disaster and Reducing Incidence of Obesity in American Youth- all published in 2012. Her first novel: Salutary Action, was published March 2013.
