Sharon L. Hicks

I am a retired executive living in Honolulu. My dad was a respected CEO and founder of Hicks Homes building over 20,000 homes in Hawaii. My mother was arrested over 33 times mainly for parading around town naked.

I was always meant to write Mother's story. I knew it would shock and entertain--the way she iived: out loud, exposed to the world. And, who would believe her stories? I kept notes and records for over forty years. I audio taped her for hours listening to "her side." This was her story. Always been about her. After all, what was interesting in my life: I was perfect.

How wrong I was. Several things happened in the writing, which is open, honest and raw.

First, it became my story. i could get into my head better than in her crazy head.

Second, I wrote about my life as it paralleled her life and found that I am NOT perfect.

Third, I discovered a new love and respect for her.

Fourth, I discovered my best traits are her traits. I found myself in my manic mother.The writing validated my life and introduced me to my authentic self.

Fifth: My memoir has made it safe for readers to dig deep into their lives and share their stories. An added bonus.

A few things about me: two failed marriages, four courageous children, nine beautiful grandchildren and one adorable great grandson. I love being with my family and friends, volunteering my time in the community, speaking engagements, book clubs and social media. I enjoy tai chi, hula, ukulele and my walks. I am an avid reader.
