Ian Muehlenhaus is an Assistant Professor of Geographic Science at James Madison University. He teaches cartography, map design, and web mapping. His research and writing interests are varied, but he is particularly interested in persuasive maps, map aesthetics, map rhetoric, web map design, and visualization.
Ian has had academic articles published in many of the most prominent cartography journals -- "The Cartographic Journal," "Cartographica," "Cartography and Geographical Information Science," and "Cartographic Perspectives." He has also given invited symposium lectures on cartography and map design to the National Geographic Society and NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. He has been the Chair of the Association of American Geographers Cartography Specialty Group (2013), is an editorial board member of "Cartographic Perspectives," a cartographic reviewer for the "Journal of Maps," and is a Director on the Cartography and Geographic Information Society Board.
