J Mark Dangerfield (1961-) is an ecologist, not a green one. He has built, run and sold companies, held academic posts at four universities, earned a PhD, and when not playing too much golf, writes books on humanity's ecological predicament. During a decade in Africa researching termites and millipedes, he once walked into a lion that snarled its displeasure. His engaging teaching style earned him Macquarie University's Outstanding Teacher award, and in 2023 he co-founded Mindful Sceptics to explore how 8 billion people might navigate social media, misinformation and the consequences of the fossil-fuel pulse. Under the Paul Sorol pseudonym, he also writes fiction to chronicle the human condition.
