Marvin Lynn

Marvin Lynn is an internationally recognized expert on race and education in the United States. He has conducted research that examines the work and lives of African American male teachers and the impact of teacher beliefs on African American students.

He is currently serving as Dean and Professor in the College of Education at Portland State University in Oregon. Dr. Lynn has served as Dean of the School of Education at Indiana University South Bend. He has held both administrative and faculty appointments at several universities including the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, The University of Illinois at Chicago and the University of Maryland-College Park. He plans to return to the faculty in 2021.

He earned his Ph.D. in Social Sciences and Education with an emphasis on Race and Ethnic Studies from UCLA, a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Teaching with an emphasis in Urban Education from Teachers College-Columbia University and a Bachelors of Science degree in Elementary Education with concentrations in music and language arts from DePaul University.
