"First and foremost, I want to write a good story. My characters, ordinary people, find themselves entangled with extraordinary events and respond the way real people would. Years of studying and teaching Native American history and culture allow me the opportunity to promote their story and customs so that the reader sees people, not stereotypes, and walk away with a better understanding of Native life and struggles historically and today. I do not just write westerns, I write about people and situations regardless of era. To me, history is important, and therefore, research is critical. Through my writing and speaking activities, it is my goal to increase awareness of the culture and contributions of American Indians. WALTER J KNAPP, a veteran of the United States Navy, graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee, with a degree in history. He has concentrated his research on Native American studies for more than three decades. After twenty years in the world of banking and finance, he expanded his interests to include freelance writing. Walter has written numerous magazine articles covering aviation and aviation-related topics as well as four novels. Just published is A Red Feather, as well as Through The Eyes of an Assassin, Between Reveille & Taps, and A Ranger’s Revenge. He previously instructed Native-American Culture at The University of North Georgia, Continuing Education Department, and is a former Vice President of the Georgia Trail of Tears Association. Walter is also a member of the Western Writers of America and Booth Writers Guild.
