Robert Sullivan

Robert Sullivan is the author of the new and expanded 2014 edition of "The Great Little Book of Fun Things You Probably Don't Know About Ireland." He grew up in an Irish-American family in the New York area. His close relationship with his maternal grandfather, who was born in County Kerry, sparked an early interest in Irish history and culture. While attending college in England in the 1970's, he took a 6 day trip to visit his grandfather's step-sister, the only one of his 8 siblings who did not leave Ireland for America before World War 1. Staying in his step aunt's home that had no running water or electricity, he met neighbors and relatives throughout the small township of Gurranes, which seemed, at the time, "so out of touch with the modern world that it was like visiting another planet." He was overwhelmed by the beauty of the west coast area (on the Beara Peninsula) and the warm, funny character of the people, whom he found "spectacularly eccentric." Since then, he has re-visited Ireland several times, and become a collector of stories, quotations and other records that define the very unusual culture of the country -- a culture that remains surprisingly powerful in spite of Ireland's modernization.

Robert has produced two books so far in his "Inner Ireland" series that shine a light in the aspects of Irish culture he loves - the musicality, the very unique world view and, above all, the quirky sense of humor that thrives on this little island.

His first book, "The Great Little Book of Fun Things You Probably Don't Know About Ireland," has recently been expanded and updated for a third edition, He has also created a book of "Unusual Irish Quotes And Quotations," also available on Amazon.com.

Mr. Sullivan still lives in the New York area.
