Harold A. McAlister

Harold A. (Hal) McAlister is an emeritus professor of astronomy at Georgia State University where he specialized in high angular resolution studies of stars using interferometric techniques. He also served as director of Mount Wilson Observatory during 2002–2014. The author or co-author of more than 400 scientific papers, Hal was given the Michelson Prize by the International Astronomical Union for Lifetime Achievement in his field. His Kindle novel, and first book, Sunward Passage was started in order to pass time sitting on airplanes flying from his home base in Atlanta to Los Angeles. He subsequently produced eight additional books with more in the planning stage.

In addition to writing, Hal's hobbies include model railroading (N scale), 3D printing, and genealogy. He and his wife Susan both grew up in Chattanooga, where they met in college, and live in Gainesville, Florida.
