Elizabeth Harding

Of Anglo-Scottish origin Elizabeth Harding was born in Sheffield but the family moved to Dundee when she was still a baby and several years later returned to Yorkshire. Now she lives in the Netherlands.

She is a novelist and poet; her books include the novels 'Winter of the Lyrebird' and the quartet 'The Exiled Bell' as well as two children's books, and poetry collections such as 'Saint Martin's Eve', 'Harley Davidson and Hildegard's Paraclete' and 'Fabula Saltica' . She has also co-translated two books on ancient philosophy and one on Paul of Tarsus by the Dutch philosopher Charles Vergeer.

Elizabeth has also worked as an editor and translator and for ten years taught Scientific Writing for the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam. She travelled up and down the country, giving courses to PhD students at a great many Research Institutes. From Theoretical Physics to Cognitive Psychology, from Oceanography to Cultural Anthropology, there are few disciplines in which she has not been involved.

Now she is once again writing full time. She enjoys working with musicians and has collaborated on some words-and-music pieces with the American composer James Fulkerson.

A graduate in Political Science she has latterly given some impetus to her almost lifelong interest in Archaeology by following many ad hoc courses in the subject, attending field schools and taking part in a number of digs, including Vindolanda.
