Dr. Weiss, an AIAA and INCOSE Fellow, has served as Consulting Professor at Stanford University, Visiting Professor at MIT and the University of California at Davis. These followed his 29 year career with the Lockheed corporation plus five in the U.S. Department of Energy and NASA.
At Lockheed his positions ranged from Manufacturing and Quality Assurance through Engineering and Project direction to General Manager for Research and Development . Major project roles were as assistant program manager and then development program manager for satellite reconnaissance programs. He then was assistant general manager for special programs and thence vp engineering and development. After a five year stint with DOE and NASA, the latter as Chief Engineer, he returned to Lockheed as corporate VP Engineering.
His teaching has covered courses in mechanical engineering, product and system design and development, and information systems.. He also lectured in the University of Delft’s Systems Engineering Master’s program and was the deputy director of Stanford’s Professional Systems Engineering offering. Dr. Weiss was co- principal investigator for MIT’s Lean Aerospace Initiative and has authored journal publications and book chapters, as well as an aerospace industry history for Encyclopedia Britannica. He has bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute plus a PhD in from the University of Illinois.
