Geoff Salmon

Geoff Salmon holds the kendo grade of 7th Dan and is one of the few westerners to have passed the new AJKF kyoshi examination.

Geoff teaches kendo in the UK and throughout Europe. He has held a number of key kendo posts including that of Chairman of the British Kendo Association and Manager of the British National Kendo Squad. He was a director of the 12th World Kendo Championship in Scotland where he had the honour of welcoming Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and HRH the Duke of Edinburgh.

He is familiar with high-level kendo competition as a competitor and referee, with four recent appearances at the Kyoto Taikai to add to his track record of earlier competition in the European and World Championships. He has refereed at The European Championships on numerous occasions as well as the 15th World Kendo Championships in 2012. Geoff is an active blogger and writes regularly on kendo technique and culture at www.kendoinfo.net .

Geoff spent three years living and training in Japan, spreading his time between Osaka Shudokan and several dojo in Hyogo. He was fortunate enough to study directly with some of the great 2nd generation kendo teachers including Matsumoto Toshio, Hanshi 9th dan. He still visits Japan as often as possible to further his own training.

In his spare time he is a partner in a headhunting firm and lives in Surrey in the UK.
