Welcome to my Amazon Author Central page. I am a writer originally from Scotland and interested in the nature of our existence both here on Earth, and as part of a wider universe. So just the little things really.
I wrote DUAL, my first novel, in 2010. It was a labour of love and reflects a preoccupation with the nature of reality and what it means to be human. I read quite a lot about quantum mechanics some years ago, when scientists would say that quantum behaviour only applies to the most minute and essential particles, not larger, denser objects like human beings. It got me thinking, and I rejected that notion; after all, we are made up of those essential particles. In the years to come, my intuition proved correct, and a lot of what you read in DUAL, in terms of hard science, is not only scientifically plausible but realistically probable.
My influences are very varied, from Joseph Heller's rather fabulous 'Catch 22', to Harper Lee's 'To Kill A Mockingbird', anything by Isaac Asimov and of course, the Hitch Hiker's Guide. I am also basically a romantic, believing in love, passion, and longing. The main characters in DUAL belong together, yet circumstances have kept them apart. If you think about all the people in the world that could make your life richer, and more fulfilled, it is rather humbling to realise that we get exposed to a minute fraction of possible 'mates'. But we are adaptable, us humans. We make the most of things in the here and now, more often than not too busy to stop to look around; look more deeply into what is happening in front of us and elsewhere in the world. My perception of reality is that we only see a tiny, thin time-slice in our lifetime, and that there are many realities that we could experience if we became more in tune with the power we have to shape our world in very positive ways. That journey starts with realising what we are, and how we work.
DUAL begins that insight. It is a work that should make you think while enjoying a building thriller which gathers pace throughout and leaves you wondering what the future holds. I really hope you give the book a chance to unfold; the investment will pay off.
As of 2020, after pursuing many avenues around expressive arts, music, teaching, and other writings, I finally managed, during these strange times, to pen the sequel to Dual. Many people had asked me over the years about what happened to Gill and Catherine, and Garfield and Montgomery. Well, you can find out now. Dual: Races is published, and I do hope you enjoy!
