Daphne Marie Doucette

Daphne Marie Doucette is a New Orleans native, born in Nurnberg, West Germany due to her father's enlistment in the Army. Growing up in New Orleans, she was surrounded by a large and close-knit family on both sides with a host of cousins that were more like siblings. Having such a rich and varied family gave her the opportunity to be in close proximity to many personalities which was fundamental to the evolution of her broad imagination.

At the age of 10, she began writing poetry as a way to cope with her grandmother's death. Her grandmother, Grace, was her first and truest love and the loss of the physical bond they shared created a vacuum that became the birthplace for Doucette's poetry.

"Written expression saved me and continues to save me... my special gift from the Source of All That Is. Writing splashes my heart on paper, divulges my soul to all, releases the fullness of my mind. My intensity can be confined by my words but for a few moments before it breaks free and becomes wild again."
