Jon Kohl
Jon Kohl is the founding director of the PUP Collaboratory whose mission is to strengthen natural-cultural heritage professional and local community performance to conserve and holistically manage humanity’s meaningful places.
In 5th grade he scored the highest on a diagnostic creative writing test in his home town. That inspired his writing. In high school he founded the literary magazine and edited the high school newspaper. At Dartmouth College he worked at the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine, Oceanus Magazine, Greenpeace Magazine, served on the literary magazine, wrote for the humor magazine, and created Sense of Place, the first formatted magazine distributed across a digital network in Internet history. Since, he has published 4 non-fiction books, 1 novel, and 280+ academic, trade, and popular articles on topics related to heritage conservation, protected areas management, holistic thinking, Integral Theory, tourism management, and heritage interpretation. Jon was a Peace Corps Environmental Interpretation Volunteer in Costa Rica where he resides with his family. He earned his Masters of Environmental Management from Yale University and a Bachelors in Ecology and Political Science from Dartmouth College. He occasionally teaches at the University of Costa Rica and leads foreign study courses for students from American universities.
