Mick Pope

Mick Pope was born in 1964 in Swinton, Yorkshire and has lived in the county all his life. He is a confirmed cricket fanatic and loves the glorious English game, especially his beloved Yorkshire CCC.

He wrote his first book "The Laughing Cricket of Wombwell" (a biography of Roy Kilner) in 1990 and since then has written a further five books with "Headingley Ghosts" (a collection of over 60 Yorkshire cricket tragedies) being his most recent work in Yorkshire CCC's 150th anniversary year. His other works include: "Tragic White Roses" (a self published biography of Alonzo Drake and Major Booth); "Yorkshire County Cricket Club" (the Archive Photography Series) and two books co-written with Paul Dyson: "Yorkshire County Cricket Club: 100 Greats" and "Yorkshire County Cricket Club: Classic Matches". Mick has won the J.M.Kilburn Cricket Writer of the Year Award in 1997 and 2013 as well as being the Joint Winner of the 2011 Don Ambrose Memorial Prize for the best article in the ACS's Cricket Statistician Journal. In 2014 he was named ACS Statistician of the Year. His articles are also regularly featured in the Yorkshire CCC Yearbook, the ACS Cricket Statistician, Wombwell Cricket Lovers' "The Twelfth Man" magazine and The Cricket Society Journal.

As well as cricket writing, Mick is also Hon.Secretary of Wombwell Cricket Lovers' Society, a long-standing member of Yorkshire CCC and a serving member of the YCCC Archives Committee. Mick has also been a committee member of the Association of Cricket Statisticians and Historians (ACS) between 1994-2006.

Mick Pope's Headingley Ghosts has been nominated for The Cricket Society and MCC Book of the Year Award 2014 and accepted for the long list.
