Javier Arevalo was born in Santiago de Chile, in 1962. At a young age already nerdi signs were showing in his character, the family moved to Venezuela, growing up in the great caribbean climate and culture that softened his mood and gave him tremendous opportunities. After completing his highschool education at Colegio San Ignacio de Loyola in Caracas, Javier took to Universidad Simon Bolivar to study science. He graduated with a Lic. in Biology. After a short time doing projects, we was offered a scholarship and moved to South Bend, IN. From 1987 to 1991, completed his Ph.D at the University of Notre Dame, a domer was born, he got married and moved to Texas A&M to complete his postdoctoral fellowship at the School of Medicine.
Javier was invited to join Procter & Gamble R&D center for Latin America in 1993. He had an interesting career spanning several functional roles and most of the business units during his tenure. In 1996, after reading The Goal, by Eliyahu Goldratt, in one single night, sparks flied everywhere as he realized where many of the recurrent issues in daily business life were coming from. It all could be reduced to scientific principles can be applied to organizations and their behaviors, resulting in dramatic improvements. From this point forward Javier was hooked. Read and learned what was at his disposal on the subject of Theory of Constraints. Met Dr Eli Goldratt in 1998. Since this point in time, they started to communicate and became friends.
When the turn of the century came, Javier decided to be part of the new wave of developments in TOC and in the new ventures of Dr. Eli Goldratt. In 1999 Javier organized a successful Satellite program site joining the global program of Dr. Goldratt that was given simultaneously all over the world via satellite, a clear predecessor of the power of video and global communications. His friendship with Dr. Goldratt continued until in 2003 Javier left P&G and joined his already operating consulting firm and family business. Not long after that Dr. Goldratt invited Javier to join Goldratt Consulting, leading the first ever Viable Vision Project in the world.
Soon after Javier assumed the role of Regional Director for Goldratt Consulting in Latin America. He has led several projects, analyzed hundreds of companies, presented and written articles on TOC subjects in international conferences. He had the fortune to learn directly from Dr. Goldratt, and to understand what he meant by thinking clearly, a task that is still under construction. He now lives with his familly in Santiago, Chile.
In 2012 a new book was conceived in discussions with Matias Birrell to present again the current expanded and improved understanding and developments of TOC. Matias graciously invited me to participate in his book project, and I became his co-author of this new book. The book is now published under the title of "Forget the Urgent!". In the book, TOC is explained in a practical dialogue between a CEO and a TOC expert, and at the end there is a full reflection of why TOC is a true base for a science of management, making simple what was presented in complex language in the last century. Hopefully, management of any type of organization will become simple using TOC and humanity will be able to build greater things upon this knowledge. We are looking forward to writing a new one soon to continue to share the almost limitless speed of advance of the TOC BOK.
